Population

 

This 7-fold growth of the world population over the course of two centuries amplified mankind's effect on the physical situation. To provide location, food, and resources for the huge world population in a way that is sustainable into the far future is without doubt one of these huge, difficult challenges for our generation. We must not make the mistake of underestimating the amount of work ahead of us. Yes, I have recent generations to bring, but for today, it is upon us to support them. However, population growth is rapid: Every year, 140 million people are born and 58 million die; this difference equals the number of people added to the world's population in a year: 82 million.
