Flower

The flower, sometimes called the "flower" or "blossom," is the reproductive system seen in flowering plants (plants of the part Magnoliophyta, also called angiosperms). The natural function of the flower is to change reproduction, usually by providing the device for the union of sperm and eggs. Flowers may aid in outcrossing (the combination of sperm and eggs from other people in the population) as a result of pollination, or they may allow selfing (the combination of sperm and eggs from those same flowers) when self pollination occurs. Some flowers create diaspores without conception (parthenocarpy). Flowers, which include sporangia, are the site of gametophyte production. Some flowers have evolved to be appealing to creatures so as to make them vectors for the transportation of pollen. After conception, the ovary of the bloom grows into a fruit containing germs.
